State Science Day

The Ohio Dietetic Association and the Ohio Nutrition Council co-sponsor the Human Nutrition awards at the State Science Day every year. This event is organized by the Ohio Academy of Science for students in grades 7 12. It is held at St. John Arena on the OSU campus. Monetary awards are given to outstanding projects, based on originality and creativity that demonstrate understanding of human nutrition and its relationship to good health. Awards are given in each of 3 grade categories (7-8, 9-10, 11-12). First place, $150.00; second place, $50.00; third place, honorable mention certificate. The 2008 first place winners in each grade category are as follows:

(Grades 11-12) Ms. Heidi Babos, Analysis of methanol in aged home canned tomatoes: Health risk?

(Grades 9-10) Mr. Brian Coyne, How do sports drinks affect heart rate?

(Grades 7-8) Ms. Elizabeth Ruff, How does blood sugar affect heart rate?
